This is easy if you already have a dao at hand. Cup your left hand, hold the guard of the broadsword to the side of your body with a straight arm, so that the tip of the sword points directly up towards the ceiling. A properly sized broadsword should have the tip of the sword at approximately the level of the practitioner's earlobe. This length is different from person to person but is the right length for you.

If you don't have a dao at hand, get in contact with us so we can measure you in person.

This is harder if you don't have a sample to compare to, but there are normally a few different sizes at CMAHC in Cape Town. If that's a problem, contact us direclty and we'll book a fitting for you to measure the length of the blade, as well as size the handle.

Having said that, the Medium size is good for most people, and is the standard we work to. But if have giant hands, go for the Large.
